Madhesh Media Mission Demands Justice for Journalists Facing Oppression in Pakistan
JAN 19, KATHMANDU – Madhesh Media Mission Nepal has submitted a memorandum to the government against the atrocities and abuses being committed against dozens of journalists, including Pakistani independent journalist and YouTuber Shoreb Chaudhary and female journalist Sana Amjad.
The memorandum has been submitted to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of Nepal through the District Administration Office, Banke. Madhesh Media Mission Nepal Banke Branch President Chandreshwor Raj Tripathi, committee members and other journalists informed Chief District Officer Khagendra Prasad Rijal.
Chairman Tripathi said that at a time when the entire world is currently suffering from terrorism, people from especially the downtrodden classes have always been victims of such terrorism. Tripathi said that the independent press world has been playing a vital role in providing justice to such classes, with dozens of people working there, including independent journalist and ‘YouTuber’ Shoreb Chaudhary of Pakistan and another female journalist Sana Amjad.
About 15 days ago, news came to light that Pakistani female journalist Arzu Kazmi was subjected to mental torture by the Pakistani regime, threatening her to come to Lahore to provide an explanation and threatening to pick her up from her house if she did not provide an explanation on time. Meanwhile, about 15 days ago, journalists Shoaib Chaudhary, Sana Amjad, Sayla Khan, and Nimra Ahmed were disappeared, and two of them were sentenced to death, so the journalists present at the meeting who had submitted the memorandum were deeply saddened.
Meanwhile, Madhesh Media has reported that about 12 other journalists have also been kidnapped and held hostage there. The Madhesh Media Mission has strongly demanded the Pakistan government to bring out the truth of the incident, demanding the immediate release of all the kidnapped and arrested journalists.
The protest rally, which started from Tribhuvan Chowk Nepalgunj and ended at the District Administration Office, was attended by journalists including Shukrarishi Chaulagain a President of the Federation of Nepali Journalists Lumbini Province, Ajay Gupta a senior journalist of Ajako Saamana, Madhu Poudel a correspondent of Sagarmatha Television Nepalgunj, and Ajay Pathak a publisher of Nile Khabar.
